Little Quest is the longest standing member of the team and is most likely in her final season running in harness at 10 years old. Weighing in at a whopping 38lbs LQ has proven she is anything but small with her huge heart. A former Wheel dog she has run with the biggest dogs her whole life and as a result is often a standout dog for guests. She has recently moved inside to prepare for her up coming retirement. When she hangs up her harness her presence will be sorely missed on the trail. Her favourite hobby is to get into mischief with her sister and has a super power of fitting through the smallest of spaces.
Phoenix is the team captain and Run Wild’s all time MVP. At 10 years old she is still charging down the trail leading her team. She will take you anywhere you ask her to, except open water! The Queen does not get her feet wet. Ever. Her years on the trail are numbered and she has been preparing for her upcoming retirement by sharing her smarts with her successor Athena. She is the only dog I have ever met who actually watches TV.
Wicky is part of a group of 4 sisters affectionately named The Mean Girls including Athena, Stevie and Cindel. The tour teams are built around these 4 girls. They are strong but calm, happy go lucky but dedicated to the trail and, opposite to what their nickname suggests, not a mean bone in their bodies. They are the whole package and in my eyes the perfect sled dogs. Attached at the hip with her besty sister, Wicket and Cindel can often be found at the base of a tree staring longingly at squirrels.
Shadowfax is your typical good-natured jock. Not being the sharpest tool in the box The Shad Man will never be a lead dog. This 70lb gentle giant is all brawn and very little brain. He is a tireless worker and will carry his team up the steepest of hills. Out of harness he is all about the love but his favourite thing to do in this world is eat.
These two handsome creatures are brothers, best friends and running partners. They have spent every waking minute of their lives together. As high-energy youngsters these two spend hours wrestling with each other in the yard. Their Uncle Chevy loves to teach them bad habits like how to chase the cat and how to open the gate.
These boys are both strong pullers, good eaters with thick fur coats and tough feet with a passion for running in harness. However, their personalities couldn’t be more different. Spicy P is a confidant socialite where as Steady Freddy is a shy guy happy to spend time alone.
The girl version of Kawhi, this little girl only has one purpose in life; to be a sled dog. The thing is, she just isn’t that great of an athlete! She is slow due to her short legs and stalky body. Her gait is terrible. She spends a lot of energy bobbing up and down instead of moving forward. And, she is a picky eater. Despite all this, Warrior the Brave runs straight from her heart loving every second she is moving her body. It is this attitude that has earned her a spot as one of Run Wild’s most trusted Leaders. She is real life proof that attitude is everything!
Athena is part of a group of 4 sisters affectionately named The Mean Girls including Stevie, Wicket and Cindel. The tour teams are built around these 4 girls. They are strong but calm, happy go lucky but dedicated to the trail and, opposite to what their nickname suggests, not a mean bone in their bodies. They are the whole package and in my eyes the perfect sled dogs. Athena is on the verge of taking over the captain’s role. Athena is very reliable in tough trail conditions but like her current captain she does not get her feet wet either!
Cindel is part of a group of 4 sisters affectionately named The Mean Girls including Athena, Wicket and Stevie. They have been known to pull whole teams off the trail chasing small game.
Cheval is the only Siberian husky in the Kennel and is often picked out for his beautiful coat. He is also often picked out for how many times he chews himself free on a run. Current record is 4 times. As a puppy he needed to run a few miles before he was calm enough to put his booties on. Like his Auntie Libby, his energy level demands attention and has a habit of picking fights if under exercised. Cheval loves car rides and keeping a close eye on the cat’s whereabouts from the armchair in the living room. Cheval came to Run Wild in special circumstances and his presence here keeps a special friend close to my heart.
Souly is the smallest male in the kennel. What he lacks in size he more than makes up for in spirit. When it comes to running he has no self-control and never learned to pace himself. He has 2 speeds – sleeping or full throttle. This “soulyism” combined with his think fur coat means he can easily over heat in warmer weather. Soul Brother’s favourite past time is stealing and wreaking my stuff. Missing a glove? Or an axe? Check The Soul Mans house! He likes to enjoy his gems before he destroys them so if you notice soon enough you might just get it back in 1ish piece.
Steve is part of a group of 4 sisters affectionately named The Mean Girls including Athena, Wicket and Cindel. The tour teams are built around these 4 girls. They are strong but calm, happy go lucky but dedicated to the trail and, opposite to what their nickname suggests, not a mean bone in their bodies. They are the whole package and in my eyes the perfect sled dogs. Stevie loves sleepovers and eating the cat litter. Steve is a good leader but runs best with her besty sis Athena.
Joy is such a Joy you can’t help but say her name twice! Joy never ran in harness with the team. She came to us after her running days were over looking for a place to spend her golden years. Her patience is astounding and she is the best grandma to puppies letting them chew and play all over her. Counting down the minutes to every next meal she knows exactly what time it is and if her dinner should have been served already! Despite the fact that she has all but quit the outdoors for the couch, she also knows exactly when “walkies” is and is overcome with “Joy” at each outing.
Shy Kawhi is a bit of an odd ball and upon first sighting appears to have low self-esteem. However, put a harness on him and watch the transformation before your eyes. Being on the trail is Kawhi’s passion in life. True to his odd ball self he will only run on the right side of the gangline. Despite all his quirks (the reason why I fell in love with him) he is proving to be an essential part of the team due to his work ethic and leader potential.
The Mur Man has officially ran his last run in harness and is now a full blown retiree. During his younger days Murray was a powerhouse puller and loved to bark his head off while running down the trail. His best friend in the whole world is Soul Brother but despite their friendship they did not make good running partners. Murray has been with Run Wild since the beginning and is a healthy reminder of the importance of living in the present moment. He was 7 months old when I met him and now he is sleeping on the couch after a lifetime of running trails. It was an honour sharing the trail with this kind soul and in a more agile time he was my dancing partner.
Mozart loves butt rubs and post run snuggles. Like his teammate Shadowfax he is a gentle giant and always work ready. Mozart is most comfortable in the back half of the team where he doesn’t have to worry about making decisions. He isn’t quite confident enough to lead but will pull up any hill. Motzy enjoys skiing and running free with his mean girls. As long as he is moving his body near his pack he is a happy camper.
Georgey shares the same energy as his baby sis Libby. GSP is a great leader and hard working sled dog with an aversion to hills. Unlike his teammates, Shadowfax and Mozart, he prefers to take his time heading up anything resembling a slope. His crazy high energy level is reserved for his baby sis Libby and you can often hear the two wrestling all over the yard. Away from his sister, George transforms into the biggest sweetheart and wants nothing more than to spread the love. George is always positive and gives the best hugs
The Libinator is a crazy girl who’s little body just isn’t big enough to contain her energy. She is always on the verge of exploding and for her own sanity needs to run as much as possible. Here at Run Wild we know better! As a result of her craziness she doesn’t have any girlfriends and prefers to spend her time with her big boys and her besty brother George. Libby and George are as close as they come and entertain their riders by their silly antics and constant singing in each other’s faces on the trail. Libby’s favourite hobby is chewing on/wrestling with her big bro George
T is the newest member of the pack and came all the way from Belgium. As a malinois, he takes his job of guard dog very seriously and doesn’t care much for sled dog life. Instead of running down trails he prefers to spend his time with his human exercising his mind. Phoenix, our team captain, is his best friend and playmate but he’s really more of the lone wolf type. His hobbies include practicing with the bite sleeve, going to the laundromat and spooning in bed. And bones, let´s not forget bones.
Part pet, part guardian, part sled dog and my #1 guy. Charlie wears many hats and was a dedicated sled dog for 5 years. These days he prefers to play the role of pet dog again and has joined the Old Timer Walkies Club. Charlie is a former foster that was returned to me after tragedy in his forever home and hasn’t left my side since. His entire purpose in life is to be near and please his humans which is why I believe he adjusted so well to sled dog life at the age of 3. Charlie is happy all the time and gives the loudest kisses. The universe gifted us with our Charlie and I am thankful for him everyday.
